Last night the wind slowly dropped and eventually became too light to sail. So on came the engine for a few hours – low RPMs for maximum fuel conservation mode.

Despite the noise of the diesel, it was good to motor for a couple of hours to recharge Madrone’s batteries. The skies have been overcast for the last several days, and solar panels can only work when there’s sun.

The weather now looks very similar to the Pacific Northwest – low clouds cover the sky while light misting rain showers wash the salt off the boat every hour or two.

The big difference is the temperature. Instead of 50 degree air this time of year at home, we have temps in the low 80s during the day and upper 70s at night. So no complaints from us!

All’s well aboard Madrone.
