Sadly we said goodbye to our Moorea Airbnb and it’s gorgeous view

After almost a month in French Polynesia, we had mixed feelings about heading back to the US.  On the one hand, there’s the lure of getting to enjoy some of our favorite foods after more than a year away – tacos from El Grullense, and good coffee from Peet’s anytime we want it.

But on the other, there are few places in the world worse off than the US for coronavirus (based on number of daily new cases per capita); neither of us is eager to get infected.

Boarding our overnight flight to SFO

So with a little bit of trepidation we dropped off our rental car and hopped on the ferry from Moorea back to Tahiti to start the journey home.  And with a little bit more worry we headed to the airport to join other nervous travelers for the flight back to San Francisco.

Luckily we each had a whole row to ourselves

With only about half the seats on the plane filled, we had plenty of room to spread out and keep our distance from other people.  And nearly everybody onboard was careful to keep their mask in place as much as possible.

And just like that, we’re back in the US!
