Madrone has pointed her bow south and is carrying her crew towards the maze of channels and islands of Patagonia.

Along the way, we’ve encountered strong winds, uncharted rocks, and plenty of rain. What we haven’t seen, however, is a single other cruising boat. This is a good place to feel alone.

Part of that solitude is a lack of connection to the outside world. Except for our satellite connection (which we’re using to post this), there is only one spot with phone or internet connectivity in the ~1000 miles (~1600km) between the top and bottom of the Chilean channels.

Our satellite connection works well for text, but it’s way too slow for pictures. So, we’ll catch up on new additions to the blog once we reach the place with internet.

Until then, feel free to send us an email (text only, please!) at svmadrone@gmail.com.
