Madrone pulled out of Puerto Williams a few days ago, headed east in the Beagle Channel towards the Atlantic Ocean. With a forecast for decent, though strong weather and good timing for sailing through the notorious Strait of Le Maire with a favorable current, the crew was ready to start the passage north.
It’s about 100nm between Puerto Williams and the strait, though, and by the time we sailed that distance conditions were no longer what we expected. So, we pulled into the strategically located anchorage of Bahia Buen Suceso to start waiting again. The sandy bottom provides good holding for the anchor as we wait for weather systems to pass.
It looks like conditions are once again shaping up for a departure, potentially on Saturday. Until then, we’re occupying ourselves with what seems to be Madrone’s favorite pastime- waiting for weather.
