Angie is Madrone’s CFO – that’s Chief Fishing Officer. It’s been awhile since there’s been any fishing done aboard. It was too cold and rainy to fish in the channels of Patagonia, and most of the passage north was too boisterous to deal with a fish if she happened to catch one.

But after a couple of weeks of relaxing in Antigua followed by a few days of gentle downwind sailing in the Caribbean trades, the fishing motivation came back. Angie dug the hand-line out of storage and decided to use the trusty pink and blue squid with sparkles – the one with only half its tentacles left from so many fish bites.

Over the side it went, and an hour later the line was taut – on the hook was a beautiful mahi-mahi, this one more than 3 ft (1m) long. Thank you, Mother Ocean, and now we’re looking forward to fresh ceviche.

All’s well onboard.
