Northern New England is full of charming seaside villages. But after visiting a few of them, we start to wonder where the real people live. So, it’s nice to pull into a town like Gloucester, Massachusetts.
While Gloucester attracts tourists (after all, it’s the home port of the fishing boats in the book and movie The Perfect Storm), it still feels like a working town instead of a tourist destination.
While the waterfront has its share of fried seafood spots, it’s dominated by the local fishing fleet. There are some mansions (or “cottages”, as they’re called here) lining the large bay, but many more normal-sized houses.
It’s a regular town, and it’s a nice change.
