Madrone made it to France!

Just like when we first sailed into Mexico, or the Galapagos or Easter Islands hove into view, or when the coastal mountains of Chile appeared on the horizon, we continue to be a little bit amazed when our trusty sailing machine safely deposits us in a new country.

So it was when we dropped anchor just outside Audierne, France. After a good night’s sleep, the current pushed us through the tidal race of Raz de Sein – after a peaceful sail a few miles north, Madrone dug her anchor into a beautiful bay just south of the town of Cameret-Sur-Mer.

Walking through the quaint streets of Cameret-Sur-Mer
One of the many pretty French homes

Located among the rocky islands and shoals outside of the large natural harbor of Brest, Cameret and its surroundings are beautiful and peaceful. Walking paths trace the cliff edges of the numerous bays and coves, the clear blue water laps gently onto the white sand beach, and because we’re now in France, a small restaurant at the top of the beach turns out delicious crepes.

The town of Cameret itself enjoys beautiful views down to the well protected inner harbor. The line of waterfront restaurants and bars curves around the marina and ends in a headland with the historic chapel Notre-Dame de Rocamadour and the Tower of Vauban.

And for the crew – fresh croissant and baguette!
