The northern exit of the Kiel Canal is in the far southwestern corner of the Baltic Sea, and at that point its only a 35nm sail north to Denmark. So off we went, and after a lovely afternoon of close reaching in 7-8 knots of breeze Madrone arrived in southern Denmark.

Up until this point, the sailing felt a bit like a delivery. Our summer goal was to get the Madrone to Scandinavia, we felt some self-imposed pressure to stretch each leg to cover as much ground as we reasonably could. But after dropping anchor off a beautifully sandy Danish beach, we could relax a bit and start to enjoy the trip in a different way – cruising slowly along the seemingly infinite coastline of an island-studded country instead of making longer hops across open water.

It feels like summer has started.
