The small anchorage of Puilladobhrain (pronounced something like “Pul-dor-an”, we think) captures what we think cruising in Scotland is all about.
A well sheltered bay provides a good anchorage with a sticky mud bottom and enough room to swing in the event of a wind shift, but not so much room that the water gets choppy when the wind picks up. The hills of the outlying islands provide a bit of shelter against the winds gusting up the Firth of Lorne. And a scenic walk over the hill and across a couple of fields ends at a small Scottish pub with friendly folks, cold beer, and hot food.
We even manage to get back to the boat just before the rain starts!
