Breaking News: Oso enters the trades!

After several days of fighting for every inch of southwest progress in lighter- than-expected winds, last night we finally reached the area of what looks like solid trade winds. The wind slowly builds through the afternoon to a steady 15-20kts from the southeast, and Oso is back to her thing – making good speed with the wind just behind the beam.

Of course, nothing is free – with stronger winds comes a more developed sea state. Fully powered up sails help to stabilize the boat, but there’s still more motion when compared to the past several days of light air sailing.

But we’ll take that trade off, and it’s nice to finally see a forecast of steady southeast trades for the next few days.

All’s well aboard.
