Today marks a major passage milestone – Halfway Day! A couple hours after noon (the start of each day), Oso had sailed 1997nm from Panama, and our chart shows 1997nm to the Gambier Islands in French Polynesia.
Of course, it’s difficult to say exactly where the actual halfway point is, or exactly when we’ve arrived there, as halfway won’t be known until we sail the rest of the way, taking into account currents, wind direction and strength, and weather. But this is as good an estimate as any, and we’ll take advantage of the opportunity to celebrate.
Mathematically-minded readers may have noticed above that the total trip distance will be almost 4000nm. That’s a long passage, but we’re enjoying the simple life of being at sea so far, with lots of time to read, to work on small projects, or to simply contemplate the vastness of the ocean during the day and the plenitude of stars at night.
All’s well aboard.
