As tourists from a non-EU country, we are allowed to stay in French Polynesia for a 90 day period. After that time, we need to stay out of the country for 90 days before entering again. While we’d love to stay longer, rules are rules and the many other islands of the Pacific are beckoning.
Neptune conveniently schedules a nice southeasterly breeze to coincide with the morning of our 91st day, so we drop the lines from our mooring under the verdant peaks of Bora Bora, unroll the sails, and head for the pass in the fringing reef without even needing to start the engine.
The breeze is exactly as forecast, and Oso slips through the unruly seas generated by a large winter Southern Ocean storm system, bow pointed west again.
All’s well aboard.
