The nice thing about a boat-focused town like Sitka is that you can just bring the grocery cart right to the boat

Sitka is a beautiful town on the west coast of Baranof Island.  With a population of about 10k, it’s a major provisioning center and we took advantage to refill the boat with food and do some routine maintenance on the engine.

We tied up to the dock behind a commercial fish boat with a dog onboard.  When we brought a couple dog biscuits over, they ran below and gave us the largest steelhead fillet we had ever seen.  I think we got the better end of that trade!

Waiting for pulled pork sandwiches at the BBQ truck. It was so good, we came back again the next day

As always, a favorite part of this shore stops was finding the best food in town.  Sitka rewarded us with BBQ at the New Creations food truck and a handmade milkshake at the soda fountain in the local drugstore.

FishingBoatTidalGrid

When it’s time for boatwork in Alaska, you just drive your boat onto the tidal grid and wait for the tide to go out. You then have ~6 hours to get the work done before the boat floats off again…
