After dropping Mike off at the airport, Angie had a couple of days to explore and get some chores accomplished.

Happy to have washers and dryers!

The first order of business was tackling the laundry.  After a couple of weeks of trying to keep up with the dirty clothes by hand-washing in a bucket, it was a dream come true to have laundry machines within walking distance of the boat.

Task two was a search for surfboards for the crew to ride over the next month.  We’d decided not to bring our boards on the trip to Hawaii – for safety we try hard to not store anything on the deck while on an ocean passage, and our boards are too big to conveniently fit down below.

Ready for some Hawaiian summer waves

We figured that we’d be able to rent or buy some used boards once we got to Hawaii.  So, Angie jumped on Craigslist and found a nice Hawaiian gentleman that was selling two soft-top Wavestorm 8′ boards for less than the cost of a week-long rental.  What a deal!

After picking up the boards in Waikiki, she paddled out for some waves, along with what seemed like the rest of the population Honolulu.  Waikiki is a super crowded spot, but has a mellow and welcoming vibe.

The iconic Rainbow Drive-In in Honolulu

Task three was the most important of all – plate lunch!  Post-surfing, a stop at the iconic Rainbow Drive-in for shoyu-chicken, rounded out the day.
