For the past 10 days, we’ve been living with the boat more or less on a permanent lean to the left. The trade winds blow from the east, so as we’ve been sailing north the wind in the sails has kept the boat heeled to port. When the wind is light, we might heel 5 degrees or so. And when the wind picks up, the boat will lean over 20 degrees or more.

After a few days of this, we have everything stored to account for the angle – towels stuffed in lockers keep things from clunking annoyingly while the boat is moving around.

We’ve now popped out (only temporarily, unfortunately) of the high, and the prevailing wind is from the north. Since we’re sailing west now, the boat is finally leaning the other way. So we are adjusting our towels and relearning our handholds for moving down below.

All is well!
