Tying up the dinghy at Las Hadas anchorage in Manzanillo

One of the things that we’ve enjoyed about sailing down in Mexico is the people we’ve met.  There are some folks that we’ve spent periods of time with in various anchorages that we now consider good friends, like Sonni and Brad (and their dogs!) aboard SV Luego, Jeff and Brenda of Adventurer YouTube fame,  and Jeff and Jules of the aptly-named catamaran El Gato.  It’s great to share an anchorage and spend time with like-minded folks like these.

At the same time, it’s a fantastic feeling to pull into a new anchorage and have it all to ourselves.  That’s exclusively what we’ve found as we’ve turned the corner of Banderas Bay to head south.  We’ve stopped in Bahia Chamela, Tenacatita, Barra de Navidad, Maruata, and now Isla Grande (Ixtapa) outside Zihuatanejo, and each anchorage has been ours alone (aside from the Tenacatita’s small pod of dolphins that spent hours scratching their backs and bellies on our anchor chain – they’ve obviously been waiting for the cruising boats to come back).

Cruising in Mexico is fantastic with others, and it’s good in a completely different way when we’re by ourselves.
