Second time’s a charm – the Immigration officer made it onto the ferry and we were able to get checked out of Ecuador successfully. Exit zarpe from the port captain in hand, we returned to Madrone for inspections from the Ecuadorian navy (checking safety gear) and the national park (who asked if we had any penguins onboard – our Spanish is not good, but we’re pretty sure that was a joke).

After deflating the dinghy and stowing all the miscellaneous things that need to be tucked away for ocean mode, we lifted the anchor and left the Galapagos in our wake at 2pm. Light winds from the south didn’t make for great speed, but were perfect for a gentle reintroduction to being at sea. We’re happy to be on our way.

Merry Christmas to all!
