The answer is that Portland, ME, punches far above its weight. The streets are bustling with a combination of locals and tourists, delicious restaurants seem to be everywhere (we had fantastic tacos at Terlingua), and the city is surrounded by water with pleasure boats, ferries, lobster boats, and charter schooners all zipping to and fro.

As good a place as “the other Portland”? We’re not sure, but Portland, Maine, is a place we could see ourselves.
