Living in tune with the weather is both a blessing and a challenge. On one hand, we really enjoy paying attention to the direction and strength of the wind, noticing when a change in clouds foretells a shift in the weather, and always having the state of the tide in the back of our minds. It makes us feel connected to the planet.

On the other hand, we sometimes have to leave a place before we’re ready because of the attention we pay. With the official start of hurricane season (pulled forward this year to May 15 instead of the historical 1 June start) upon us, it doesn’t seem smart to dawdle on an island located in “Hurricane Alley”.

Without the change in season, we would have happily stayed longer in Bermuda. The scenery is gorgeous, the people are friendly, polite, and welcoming, the anchorage is peaceful, the island is clean and obviously well-managed, and the pace of life is easy and relaxing.

So, it was only reluctantly that we checked out with Customs and Immigration (who thanked us for coming and invited us back for another visit), confirmed our departure with traffic control at Bermuda Radio (who thanked us for coming and invited us back for another visit), and headed back to sea.
