Between the late 1980s and late 1990s, the Ta Shing boatyard in Tainan, Taiwan, built about 100 sailboats using their house brand, Taswell. Most of the boats were sold in the US, but perhaps 10-20% were delivered to Europe. So it was fairly rare to spot another Taswell in the wild in the US, and it’s been even rarer now that Madrone is across the Atlantic.
So, we were delighted to be contacted by Tim and Karen, who purchased their Taswell 43, Silver Moon, a couple of years ago in the UK. After having been little used for a number of years, the boat has undergone a fairly extensive refit at the hands of Tim and Karen.
They invited us out to see their boat in their hometown of Burnham-on-Crouch, and we learned that the craftsmanship and care they’ve put into restoring the boat is only matched by their hospitality. We had a great couple of days chatting about boats, comparing Taswells, and touring the area.
And the bonus was getting some quality dog time with their lovely springer spaniel, Beau.
