Back in 2017, we embarked on our first major offshore passage – leaving from San Francisco aboard Madrone and sailing 2000nm across the North Pacific to Hilo on the big island of Hawaii. From there, we cruised the Hawaiian archipelago for a couple of months, eventually ending up in Hanalei Bay on the north shore of Kauai, longitude 159.5W, before departing for the return trip to California.

Almost exactly nine years after that trip, we’ve finally crossed that line of longitude again, albeit in the South Pacific this time. So we’re now further west than we’ve been before aboard a boat.

A minor milestone, to be sure, but it feels good all the same.

All’s well aboard.
