In April of 2024, Oso sailed gently westwards in the English Channel after her months-long refit in Ipswich. Near Brighton, the longitude switched from east to west – we had just crossed the Prime Meridian back into the Western Hemisphere.

Oso made the opposite crossing early this morning, passing from west longitudes back to east, this time on the far side of the world. Unlike the Prime Meridian, which marks 0 degrees longitude, there’s no generally accepted name for the opposite line that marks 180 degrees latitude.

In other news, sailing conditions remain excellent – Oso has now covered more than half the distance from Tonga to NZ.

All’s well onboard.
