Even without the compass needle pointing nearly due south, it wouldn’t be hard to tell that Oso is headed to a different climate zone. The water temperature has now fallen 11F/6C since we left, and it’s easily noticeable in the boat.

The days are still very pleasant, with the bright sun keeping things warm as long as we have shelter from the brisk winds. But the nights are definitely cooling off. Attire for the first night’s watch was tropical standard – shorts and a T-shirt. Each subsequent night, however, has required more and more layers, and last night saw the introduction of a fleece blanket to the cockpit.

All’s well onboard.
