At 330pm local time, Oso eased against the customs quarantine dock in Opua. To say that the crew is excited to arrive in New Zealand is a huge understatement.

Located in the Bay of Islands near the northeast tip of NZ’s north island, Opua enjoys a beautiful setting. Unfortunately, our arrival coincides with a gale – wafts of grey fog obscures the hilly islands, which is ok because strong winds drive the rain so hard horizontally it’s difficult to open our eyes to see anything anyway.

More to come in a passage summary after a night’s sleep.
