Aside from slightly uncomfortable waves during the first night, it would be hard to ask for much more from weather conditions over the first 4 and a half days of this passage. Winds have been moderate, neither too far ahead nor too far aft, and the sailing has been fast and comfortable.

In eyeing this weather window for heading south to NZ, we saw a forecasted area of very light wind directly in our path. That calm patch stayed in every subsequent update of the forecast, and at midnight even our giant baby blue gennaker is not enough to keep us moving.

So on comes the Volvo engine, and Oso motors through the night in search of the next bit of favorable wind.

All’s well onboard.
