The wind picked up in the late afternoon and held at a steady 18-22 knots all night. With a poled-out genoa to windward and the main to leeward, Madrone screamed along at 7-8 knots.

We’re now just north of the latitude of San Francisco, about 1100 miles straight north of Hawaii. The Pacific High is just northeast of us, and tomorrow we’ll start our turn eastward and try to figure out how to make it through the windless area.

This has been a long starboard tack!
